Laws and regulations concerning sport fishing vary greatly within countries with different closed seasons, restrictions on gear types or specific quotas. Anglers are strongly advised to check and become fully aware of all laws and regulations in a local area before going to a fishing trip. For example in England anyone aged over 12 years who fishes for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels is required by law to have an Environment Agency Rod Fishing Licence.
